The aim of this study was to compare the semi-automatic Uroquattro HB&L “ESBL/AmpC Screening” (Alifax®) system with the routine culture on selective media to detect ESBL/AmpC-producing microorganisms (3CGRE). A total of 201 rectal swabs samples were processed by inoculating them into the HB&L system, performing growth curve measurements at 6.5 and 10 h, and into direct culture medium.

CONCLUSIONI:

  • HB&L allows the characterization of 3CGRE in the same day of the sample collection and reduces the time for negative results
  • The earlier negative results have an impact by reducing the adverse effects of isolation on the patient and on the other hand reduce costs associated with outbreaks
  • Reduction of theraphy cost compared with the molecular methods
