Rapid bacterial identification from positive blood cultures by infrared spectroscopy using short-term incubation

74th Annual Meeting of the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology e.V. (DGHM) 5–7 September 2022

Berlin.  “Off-label” trial study (not present in the current intended use) conducted by the team of Prof Wendel of the Cologne University Hospital (Germany) was officially presented at the last DGHM congress.
For the first time, I-dOne was used to identify strains obtained from positive blood culture streaked on an agar plate and analyzed after 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 24 h incubation with the “thick drop” technique already applied for mass spectrometry.
The agreement results in 100% at the genus level and 95.6% at the species level vs the MALDI-TOF Vitek MS according to overnight isolated colony specifications and the results with reduced culture incubations are equally promising.

Rapid identification of clinically relevant Candida spp. by Attenuated Total Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared(ATR-FTIR) Spectroscopy

Poster presented at the SIM (Italian Society of Microbiology) 18 – 21 September 2022

Naples. The study conducted by the team of Prof. Antonella Lupetti of the Pisa University (Italy) presented at the SIM in Naples, reports a 93.9% concordance at the species level for the identification of 133 clinical isolates of different Candida vs the MALDI-TOF Bruker system.
